Search Wayne County Docket Online
Wayne County offers one of the better online search tools in Ohio. The Case Information Online (CIO) system lets you look up court docket data from your computer. CIO covers cases filed in the General Division of the Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations cases, and Appellate cases. Enter a party name or case number to find docket entries.
The docket entries in CIO match the ones on the official court docket. But keep something in mind. The system is a convenience tool, not the official record. What you see online is a copy. If you need something that will hold up in court, you still need to get a certified copy from the Clerk of Courts office. CIO is great for looking up case status, hearing dates, and filing history.
For statewide searches, the Supreme Court of Ohio maintains a docket system covering appellate and supreme court cases back to 1985. Wayne County trial court records are best searched through CIO or in person at the clerk's office in Wooster.
Note: Wayne County's Case Information Online is not the official record and should not be used as a certified source for legal proceedings.
Wayne County Probate and Juvenile Dockets
The Wayne County Probate and Juvenile Court has its own set of records and rules. Probate Court records are generally public. They cover estates, guardianships, adoptions, and marriage licenses. You can request inspection and copying under the Ohio Public Records Act. The fee for copies is $0.05 per page and $1.00 per CD or cassette tape.
Juvenile Court records are a different story. They are generally not public. Parents, legal guardians, and attorneys for the parties can access them. But most other people cannot. There are some exceptions within the Probate Court too. Civil commitment cases, adoption reports, and abortion notification bypass records are not public. Everything else in Probate Court can be viewed during business hours.
