The Franklin County Municipal Court sits at 375 S. High St., Columbus, OH 43215. Call (614) 645-8214 for court info. This court handles misdemeanor criminal cases, traffic violations, civil cases up to $15,000, and small claims cases up to $6,000. Docket entries for these cases show up in the clerk's search tool. For Common Pleas cases, the Franklin County Clerk of Courts runs a separate search. You can reach the clerk by phone at (614) 525-3600. Members of the public may contact the office for inspection or copying of public court records at all reasonable times during regular business hours. Walk in or call ahead.

The Franklin County Municipal Court Clerk runs a public access search tool. Search by case number, ticket number, or first and last name. Case numbers use a year, three-letter code, and six-digit sequence. A criminal or traffic case might look like 2027 CR A 001234. A civil case might look like 2027 CVE 001234. Not all fields are required. The most efficient way to search is by case number or ticket number.

For name searches, you must include both first and last name. If you add a middle name, try just the first letter since it is not always listed on the case. Date of birth should be in MM/DD/YYYY format with forward slashes, not hyphens. Most cases fall into open or closed status. A closed status does not always mean the case is done or fully resolved.

The Case Information Online (CIO) portal covers a broader set of records. CIO was built by the Franklin County Clerk of Courts and the Franklin County Data Center. It gives the public access to criminal and civil cases filed in the General Division of the Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations cases, and appellate cases filed in the 10th District Court of Appeals. The docket entries in CIO match the official court docket. But CIO is a copy, not the official record itself. The system is not set up for bulk data downloads. Large data requests need prior approval.

Note: CIO docket entries are the same as those on the official court docket, but the system is considered a copy and not the official record.
